Acid-etched Glass For Exterior Applications
A Unique Way to Move Light!
Because acid-etching is not a coating, its resistance properties to exterior conditions are essentially equivalent to unetched glass.
Acid-etched glass is an ideal, robust solution for exterior applications. This versatile semi-transparent substrate is ideally suited for reducing glare, diffusing light, providing privacy while maximizing daylighting and much more. Combined with any low-e substrate in an insulating glass unit, acid-etched glass creates a brilliant and stunning energy-efficient glazing alternative. The etched surface can be used on any of the four surfaces of an insulated glass unit, each providing a different and unique visual effect.
Acid-etched glass can be found in a multitude of exterior applications, such as sealed units, railings, spandrel, skylights and many more.
One of the greatest advantages in using acid-etched glass for exterior applications is that it does not restrict light flow while hiding what is behind the façade. The levels of visible light transmittance are impressive.

Other notable advantages of using acid-etched glass in exterior applications:
- Easy to maintain over time
- Reduces glare significantly
- Adds depth to the glass
- Excellent to diffuse light (Haze values in Table B2 of the “Light and energy performance values” document)
Limited Warranty on Surface Degradation
Walker warrants, for a period of 10 years, that the etched surface will not degrade, provided that the surface is not subjected to any conditions that would otherwise lead to premature degradation of unetched float glass.
